What the hell are Infradaylight
pictures?

If you just saw my new category inside my gallery you might have been asking yourself what the hell this could be, right? Befor you send me to hospital please let me explain what "Infradaylight Pictures" are.

Today I have done my first night outing with my new Fuji Finepix S3 Pro UV/IR "Limited Edition" and I figured out that pictures without any filter, made with the EL-Nikkor 63mm f/3.5 have there own charme.

For sure its not generaly new what I have done, but as there is no name for that kind of photography and also because the whole spectrum emitted by our sun will be recorded this way I gave it the name "Infradaylight" - Photography.

In my mind its the only and also maybe the last unexplored partition of photography.

Why?

Easy to tell....

Just a view crazy guys like me "destroyed" their digital camera by removing the UV/IR filterpack in the last years. Most of them were using it since the conversion for Infrared Photography. And just a fistful guys are into ultraviolet photogrpahy because of its needs in expensive lens and filters.

To utilize this interesting feature for artistic purposes is a new unexplored territory in photography which is only waiting to be discovered.

If somebody still can't understand the meaning of my idea let me explain it again. Our sun emits wavelengths from 0 nm to 5000 nm, but only the small part between 400nm and 700nm can be visualized by our eyes. Everything beyond this wavelengths can't be seen from human beings.

So far so good.

But why is it interesting to see Images which are contaminated with ultraviolet and infrared light you may ask now. Okay lt me explain that to you.

During I made some pure ultraviolet pictures today (shortly after sunrise) I realized that the ultraviolet light is always around even if we can't see it with our eyes. For sure that is fact but only when using the right camera with an UV Capable lens and filters like the Schott BG-38 (BG-40) plus a Hoya U-360 you will be able to make it visible.

The same thing but much more intense happens with infrared wavelengths. Notwithstanding it was apparently dark outside, my new toy (Fuji Finepix S3 Pro UVIR) was able to record beautiful images that gave the impression from daylight pictures. But the aren't! They were made at night. And thats why i chose this funny name. "Infra" because 85 % from the picture consist of infrared light. "Daylight" because the rest (14,8 %) is caused by normal daylight. Ultra must not be inside the name I decided, because 0,2 % is not worth to talk about.

Because this sounds so crazy I thought about a new technique to express myself.

That was in a view words the describtion of the meaning from the denotation "Infradaylight Photography".

If you are still not convinced with this new idea check out the results and lets talk about what you think.

Here are some really beautiful examples of this technique:

You have never been on the Planet Mars.... what a shame ;-) Its real wonderful there.

Or what about the Gateway to heaven.....

Autumn can be so wonderful if you catch him in those transient days.

Have you ever seen blue snow in autumn?

Okay it's not snow... but it looks like.

Or maybe you like Japanese garden architecture?

These are all just samples from this new kind of photography. So let me invite you for another outing with your modified DSLR without any filter in front. You will recieve wonderful naturaly images, I promise

Stay tuned, I will be back soon with much more interesting news.

Cheers
